When one country wants to prosecute, sentence, or incarcerate an individual found in another country, most of the time that country will go through the international extradition process.  The information on the following pages will help explain what international extradition is and what it isn't.  Bear in mind that extraordinary renditions and deportations are not covered by this material, as they are not part of the extradition process.
